For those not yet familiar with “Becoming a Lesser Man” – this is my code name for my new diet/exercise program. I have my good buddy Braxton Cosby helping with this, and the plan is to update you as to how things are going… good or bad!
My first step was to begin cutting food intake in half. I’m still struggling with that. It’s much harder than I thought it would be. My bride is just so danged great in the kitchen, ya know? But I’m doing fairly well avoiding fried foods – so, one step at a time I guess.
Second step is to increase the amount of exercise/movement I get each day. With my sedentary job it is a necessity for me to actively find ways to make this happen. Braxton originally suggested marching in place. Booooooooring. That last about three minutes and I realized there was no way I was going to keep up with it. But today, I think I figured out how to get a bit more exercise into my daily routine – using my Wii console.
Up until today we’ve been the Wii primarily for watching Netflix. When we first got it three or four years ago we (my bride and I) would bowl on it, but that’s about it – and we haven’t done that in over a year. So I figured I’d look into the “fitness” aspect of it. It was simple, but I found myself out of breath and sweating when I was done. I think this will be much more effective than just marching in place – it’ll give my brain something to focus on at the same time. We don’t have the official “Wii Fit” right now – just the “Wii Sports” that came with the system. But I just ordered the original “Wii Fit” online for $25 (used) on eBay to give it a try.
Meanwhile, we’re also going to have our elliptical machine fixed in the basement. Once I lose a few pounds I can move to that. Currently I’m over the 300lb weight limit it can handle – which is probably why I’ve broken it. Twice.
