An Indiana State University researcher suggests that you help kids get in shape by adding weights to their toys.  ***MARLAR: Aren’t sixteen pound yo-yos inherently dangerous?

There is a very small town in West Virginia called “Big Ugly”.  ***MARLAR: No one has any idea why it was named that, but you know, it’s probably a redneck thing. There was a woman from Big Ugly who entered a beauty pageant, and won. The headline in the local paper read, “Big Ugly Woman Wins Beauty Pageant”.

Tsumoto Tosaka isn’t your average older man. At 74, he’s in such amazing shape that he recently took the top spot in the Japan Masters Bodybuilding Championship (held, fittingly, just a day before Japan’s Respect for the Aged Day). And just in case you’re thinking that the only way to create a body like Tosaka’s is to start lifting at an early age, know this — Tosaka didn’t begin weightlifting until he was in his 40s!  ***MARLAR: Instead of the old man telling kids to get off his lawn, he kicks them across the street.

Toys R Us said it will hire about 35,000 seasonal workers during the holidays. The nation’s largest toy seller said the amount is equal to its total work force hired during each of the previous two holiday seasons. Furthermore, existing employees will have the option to work additional hours during the season.  ***MARLAR: And possibly and extra scuttle of coal. 

Walmart has announced that it will aggressively expand its $10 toy program for the 2009 holiday season. Last year the program applied to a total of ten toys, and this year they say it will apply to over 100 toys.  ***MARLAR: In other words, they could’ve afforded to give you a break last year, but decided to stick it to you instead?

According to the Obsessive-Compulsive Foundation an estimated 700,000 to 1.4 million people in the United States are believed to have compulsive hoarding syndrome, a sub-condition of obsessive-compulsive disorder. That’s a condition where a person saves and piles up almost everything much of which is on no value at all.  ***MARLAR: That might explain the McDonald’s wrappers on my car’s floorboard.
