The wind-power company First Wind has been eyeing a western Maine site as a possible location for a new field of turbines. But the proposed Longfellow wind farm on Black Mountain looks like it may be a no-go — because it’s too windy up there! Company spokesperson Matthew Kearns told a public meeting in Rumford that their tests show that gusts atop Black Mountain are too strong for turbine engineering to handle. ***MARLAR: So, Maine is too windy to be powered by wind?
No one was seriously injured after a plane hit an SUV and made a crash landing in the street during rush hour traffic in North Las Vegas. A pilot and passenger in a home-built Dragonfly aircraft had just taken off from North Las Vegas Airport when it grazed overhead lines and flew over six lanes of traffic before hitting Candace Porter’s SUV. Then the plane crashed landed in the street. The pilot was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, while the roof of Porter’s SUV was damaged. ***MARLAR: Sounds like the driver should’ve been in a Dodge.
Nearly 70 percent questioned in an AP-Ipsos poll said people are ruder than they were 20 or 30 years ago.
