Feeling slow and stupid? You may just need to get more sleep. Researchers at the University of Liege, Belgium, kept 33 healthy young volunteers sleepless for 42 hours while MRIs monitored their brain activity and levels of melatonin, the body clock hormone. Afterward, subjects were given cognition tests while their reaction time and memory abilities were monitored. Results: The longer the sleepless period, the more difficulty the subject has with concentration and even simple problem solving and the more sluggish they became.
