Today is NATIONAL AMBROSIA DAY.  ***MARLAR: Had to look this one up.  Apparently this is a fruit dessert made of oranges and shredded coconut and sometimes pineapple.  I’ve always known that as a five-cup salad – just add marshmallows.  The dictionary also says that, according to Classical Mythology, it’s “the food of the gods”.

Today is POINSETTIA DAY, marking the 1799 birth of Dr. Joel Poinsett, who brought the poinsettia plant north from Mexico. He was a U.S. congressman and Secretary of War.  ***MARLAR: Who made the stupid suggestion to use poinsettias during the holidays, anyway?  Sure – it’s red and green and looks pretty, but if it gets COLD it dies.  Gee, that’s Christmassy.

Today is GINGERBREAD HOUSE DAY.  ***MARLAR: I’ve yet to see an authentic one in real life.  The only gingerbread houses I’ve seen in the past were ones my friends and I made out of graham crackers.  But hey, they still looked great!  Eating them wasn’t such a great idea though – not after being out on display for two weeks.

Today is DING-A-LING DAY. Always on Frank Sinatra’s birthday. ***MARLAR: I’m sure the family loves that.
