Local pest becomes tourist attraction in Bolivia

Photo Courtesy Wikipedia.comThe saying goes, “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.”  Well, a Christian organization is helping turn a local pest into a tourist attraction in Bolivia. When Food for the Hungry’s Bolivia team heard about the problems the red-fronted macaw was causing in local crops, it sparked an idea. The organization first helped farmers devise ways to keep the birds away from their crops without killing them. It then helped area residents turn the birds into a source of income by helping create a tourist destination at their breeding grounds. The changes have increased the villagers incomes and opened their hearts to hearing about God’s word.
