AUGUST 22, 2014…

When Games Stand Tall—Based on the true story of a high school football team that won 150 games and got prideful about it. Then comes their first loss and everyone, from the townsfolk to the faculty, are demoralized. Jim Caviezal (“Person of Interest”) stars as the coach.  Also in the cast are Laura Dern and Michael Chiklis. “When Games Stand Tall” is rated PG 13. Rating of 2 for sports fans.

If I Stay–Author Gayle Forman wrote a novel about a young girl musician (Chloe Grace Moretz) who is in a coma from an auto accident. She walks among her friends and the hospital, but no one can see her. Should she “go back” or not?  Also in the cast are Lauren Lee Smith, Stacy Keach and Mireille Enos. “If I Stay” is rated PG 13. No rating.

Sin City: A Dame To Kill For—Frank Miller has written several graphic novels, and this one continues the saga of Sin City. This time, Jessica Biel has the title role (by the way, this is an adult movie) about a popular dancer who is sought after by the guys. The cast includes Powers Boothe and Josh Brolin. This is part animation and part acting. “Sin City: A Dame To Kill For” is rated R. No rating.

The November Man—Remember Pierce Brosnan as James Bond?  The characterization of a tough spy is back in this movie.  Brosnan plays a retired government agent who comes back to protect someone. All of his skills are needed in this thriller as he goes against a younger assassin (Luke Bracey.). The cast also includes Olga Kurylenko and Eliza Taylor. “The November Man” is rated R. Rating of 2 for Pierce Brosnan fans.

Love Is Strange (opening in select cities)—In this comedy, John Lithgow and Alfred Molina have been a couple for years and years. They decide to get “married”, but when one of them is soon without a job, they have to cut back on finances including their apartment. What to do? Also in the cast is Marisa Tomei. “Love Is Strange” is rated R. No rating.


AUGUST 29, 2014…

Jessabell is a horror film starring Sarah Snook and about a girl who goes home to recover from an accident and finds something else there.

The Trip To Italy stars Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon in another of their humorous trips by car.

As Above, So Below is a supernatural movie about people digging for old ruins beneath Paris and finding a special gate.

Cantinflas is the story of the famed actor/comedian whose real name was Mario Moreno.

The Loft is a thriller starring Karl Urban and Eric Stonestreet.

The Notebook is not a remake of the film of a few years ago. This one concerns a notebook kept by children trying to survive the Holocaust. Made in Hungary.
