AUGUST 29, 2014…

Jessabell—In this horror film, a young girl has a bad accident and decides to go to a childhood home to recuperate. Home is in Louisiana and nothing is as it seems.  She isn’t exactly alone there. No Southern hospitality. The cast includes Sarah Snook, Mark Webber and Joelle Carter..“Jessabelle” is rated PG 13. No rating.

The Trip In Italy (opening in select cities)—Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon decide to have another road trip and this time, go to Italy. They travel through Tuscany, Rome, and Capri, arguing and making comments all the way. This duo did “The Trip” a few years ago, as two actors writing for a magazine about England’s lake country. Nothing goes as planned. “The Trip To Italy” is rated PG 13. No rating.

As Above, So Below—This supernatural story is about people who explore beneath the streets of Paris for old ruins. They find an ancient gate, numerous bones, and this gate certainly doesn’t lead to heaven. Stars Ben Feidman, Edwin Hodge and Pedita Weeks. “As Above, So Below” is rated R. No rating.

Cantinflas—Mario Moreno became famous when he did the character of “Cantinflas,” who always managed to get his way.  The Mexican star did numerous movies and this film tells his story. Stars Michael Imperioli, Oscar Jaenada and Barbara Mori. “Cantinflas” is rated PG. No rating.

The Loft—This is a thriller about several men who rent a luxury apartment to have their “girlfriends” over (read affairs here). Someone is found dead there and the suspect list begins to climb.  The cast includes James Marsden, Eric Stonestreet, Karl Urban and Wentworth Miller. “The Loft” is rated R. No rating.

The Notebook—A Hungarian film, this is not a remake of the film of a few years ago, this one tells the real story of two boys, during WWII in Hungary, who are trying to survive the Holocaust.  Being released widely here, it was Hungary’s entry to the Academy Awards last year. Stars Andras Gyemant and Laezlo Gyemant. No rating.

 

SEPTEMBER 05, 2014…

The Green Inferno is a horror film about cannibals in the Amazon. Guess zombies are passe’ now.

Frontera is a thriller starring Ed Harris as a former sheriff trying to solve a murder.
