AUGUST 08, 2014…

Into The Storm—For those living in the Midwest, commonly called “Tornado Alley,” sirens at 4 a.m. are only too real.  This movie, with all its special effects, combines the tornado force of nature with the usual story lines (people trapped, hurry up…hurry up….) and a tornado that seems more like a hurricane and more like an F 10. Richard Armitage stars (“The Hobbit”) along with Jeremy Sumpter and Sarah Wayne Callies. 100 feet underground would be the type of shelter to have here.  “Into The Storm” is rated PG 13. Rating of 2 for fans of this genre.

Step Up: All In— Ryan Guzman stars in another film about dancers with innovative moves going for the Big Time in the dance world.  This story has actors from previous movies in this series, coming to Las Vegas for a dance showdown. Also in the cast are Alyson Stoner and Briana Evigan. “Step Up: All In” is rated PG 13. No rating.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles—Yes, Megan Fox is in this film, along with the Turtles. Fox plays a reporter, while the Turtles go after villains Foot Clan and Shredder. All this happens in New York. Also in the cast is Will Arnett.  “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” is rated PG 13. No rating.

The Hundred-Foot Journey—Helen Mirren is a premiere chef with an all-star restaurant in France. She is the top of the food chain, What will happen, though, with a family from India comes to her town and opens a restaurant virtually across the street.  Competition, you say? This is a Lasse Hallstrom film. “The Hundred-Foot Journey” is rated PG 13. Rating of 2 for Helen Mirren fans.

Calvary (opening in select cities)—This is a dark comedy from Ireland about a priest (Brendan Gleeson) who finds that one of the members of his church is planning on killing him. What to do? Other stars in the cast are Chris O’Dowd and Kelly Reilly. “Calvary” is rated R. No rating

What If (opening in select cities)—Daniel Ratcliffe stars in this romantic comedy in which a guy just wants to be friends with a girl. Of course, people object. The girl is Zoe Kazan. “What If” is rated PG 13. No rating.

Get On Up—Chadwick Boseman, who was Jackie Robinson in “42,” now takes on the role of James Brown, known as “The Godfather of Soul” Imagine this soundtrack. The story follows the career of Brown and also has David Andrew Nash and Helsan Ellis in the cast. “Get On Up” is rated R. No rating.


AUGUST 13, 2014…

Let’s Be Cops is a comedy about two guys who pretend to be cops. Stars are Jake Johnson and Damon Wayons, Jr.


AUGUST 15, 2014…

Dinosaur 13 is a documentary that go on the trail of who actually owns the discovered skeleton of a dinosaur.

Expendables 3 brings back the action guys who just keep going.  The cast list, with Sylvester Stallone and Mel Gibson, is longer than the script.

The Giver  is adapted from a novel by Lois Lowry and stars Jeff Bridges as a teacher.

Magic in The Moonlight is Woody Allen’s latest film starring Colin Firth as a magician.
