Weird Holidays – August 28, 2009

o Today is RACE YOUR MOUSE AROUND THE ICONS DAY, something to do while waiting for files to load.

o Today is WORLD SAUNTERING DAY. ***MARLAR: I’m more of a meandering kind of guy, myself.  Can I saunter around the icons instead?

o RADIO COMMERCIAL DAY.  The first radio commercial was broadcast on New York City’s WEAF. The Queensboro Realty Company paid $100 for 10 minutes of air time. ***MARLAR: Ten minutes… for one commercial!  Of course, nowadays you have sixty-second commercials… but radio stations like to play ten of them in a row (well, every station except ours, of course)!

o Not a WEIRD holiday – but certainly worth noting: today is DREAM DAY, marking Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech on this date in 1963.
